Cyclone Larry - 2006

The eye of  severe Tropical Cyclone Larry made landfall near Innisfail around daybreak of Monday 20 March 2006. Fortunately, no lives were lost and no serious injuries were reported.  However, between Babinda to the  north  of El Arish and Tully to our south, damage to infrastructure and crops was extensive.  Total estimated loss was upwards of half a billion dollars. Larry remained at hurricane-force intensity as it moved over the Atherton Tablelands. It maintained at tropical cyclone strength until around 2 pm, 21 March.
